Game Designer
Heaven's collapse
Project duration: 6 months
Developer: School project
Trailer:
Heaven's collapse is a cooperation stealth game for 2 players. I worked as a Lead game designer of a team of 2 other designers within a team of 15 students. This was my first experience in how to handle a scope and how to coordinate our work as Game designers with the Art and Programming teams.
Rivalry
We wanted to create a cooperation experience that was deeply infused with rivalry between the 2 players. We created asymmetrical characters, one that could climb on walls and attack enemies with her bow and arrows, while the other one was heavier but could turn invisible and bribe NPCs.
We also created several mechanics to reinforce that rivalry, such as:
- Keeping the count,
The number of kills performed by each of the players is compared at the end of every level, to designate a winner between the two of them.
- Contesting kills,
When eliminating an enemy, the other player can contest that kill by interacting at the right time, triggering a QTE. The winner gets awarded the kill.
- Getting caught,
If a player ever gets caught by an enemy, they'll need the other player to come and rescue them.
- A secret objective.
Both players will have a secret objective, which is a specific enemy they have to kill. The enemy can be either the same one for the two players or a different one, creating a spark of rivalry when the designated enemy gets spotted by one the players.
